As part of the “Reclaim The Lanes” project, an initiative launched by Wexford County Council, Wexford Tidy Towns, Wexford in Bloom, WWETB, local businesses and local artists, Phase 2 – “Oak Lane” ( Roman Lane ) was launched on Friday 25th September 2026 by Mayor Vicky Baron.
Titled “Creative Laneways – Wings of Vision”, the lane, after a thorough cleansing and re-painting by Wexford Tidy Towns and Wexford in Bloom Volunteers had its walls beautified by fabulous murals by acclaimed local artist Frankie Lowney, and flocks of multicoloured butterflies created by Helen McLeans mosaic team, which also contained many Tidy Towns volunteers. The “Wings of Vision” title of the Butterfly display is intended to represent transformation and regeneration.
Wexford residents turned up in force to support the launch, and see the wonderful transformation which the lane has undergone.
Creative Lanes is the latest phase in the Wexford Public Arts Project, of which
Wexford Tidy Towns are a proud sponsor and contributor to the Creative Lanes Project, which aims to revitalise our built environment with colourful and uplifting street artworks.
The art installation was officially opened by Mayor of Wexford Vicky Barron, who profusely thanked Artists Frankie Lowney and Helen McLean, Wexford Tidy Towns ( who promoted and part-funded the project, and whose Volunteers have been busily creating the Mosaic Art elements for months ), Wexford in Bloom, WWETB, the Wexford Business Community, Wexford County Council and all others who contributed to this significant and continued effort to enhance Wexford Town’s streetscape and turn our lovely lanes back into public amenity areas.
