Biodiversity Walk and Community Collaboration in Wexford

April 16 2026

We were delighted to co-host, with Wexford Local Development, a Biodiversity Walk and networking session with Wexford local community groups. bringing together a wide range of local stakeholders committed to enhancing our natural environment.

The afternoon began at Café Konnect, where attendees met with ecology expert Faith Wilson to discuss the vision for a proposed wildlife trail linking Selskar Abbey, Wexford Town. and Redmond Park.

The group then continued with a walk from Selskar Abbey, exploring the area and discussing the potential for developing a wildlife trail, with a focus on assessing the space and shaping a practical plan of action.

It was inspiring to see such strong collaboration, with representatives from Tidy Towns, Edible Wexford Community Garden Project, Wexford County Council, The Men’s Shed, Wexford Mental Health Association, Wexford Environmental Network, local residents, Selskar College, Wexford Lions Club and many more in attendance.

A great example of community, collaboration, and sustainability in action – we look forward to seeing how this exciting project develops.

Wexford Tidy Towns – Gold Medal 2025

National Tidy Towns Award Announcements 2025  –  Gold for Wexford!

October 24 2025.

Three of our team travelled to Croke Park today for the announcement of the National Tidy Towns Awards for 2025.

We were overjoyed to hear the announcement that we had once again won Gold! This marks the fifth year in succession for which we have been awarded the Gold Medal. We are so grateful to have such a committed and hard-working team of volunteers, the many local people who keep their own estates clean and attractive, and the wonderful local businesses who take great care in keeping the areas outside their premises litter free and tidy.

Our overall score in the marking system was 393, over 8 Categories. This was just 7 points behind the overall National Winner, Carrick-on-Shannon, to whom we extend our warm congratulations!

Our score was 18 points higher than in 2024, and significantly, our points in each of the 8 scoring categories was higher than in 2024, the second year in a row in which this has been achieved. This indicates to us that we are not only maintaining our impact on keeping our Town looking good, but, with everyone’s help, improving on it’s attractiveness each year.

This is our 5th Gold Medal, having first achieved Gold in 2021.  We will continue our push for excellence in 2026 and beyond!

The Fleadh is over, long live the Fleadh!

Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2025 in Wexford will live long in the memories of all involved, from the estimated 800,000 visitors over the 8 days, the hundreds of musicians competing, performing and busking, the welcoming Wexford people and the many dedicated Local Authorities staff and Volunteers who made the whole show run so seamlessly.

Fleadh-Tidy-Towns-Volunteers

The Green Team Volunteers including Wexford Tidy Towns regulars, operating from Wexford Tidy Towns HQ in the Bull Ring worked tirelessly in two daily shifts of four hours each to ensure the packed Wexford streets were kept pristine, following the early morning blitzes by Wexford County Council teams.

It’s fair to say that Wexford Town was shown at its very best throughout the 8 days of Fleadh ’25!

We are all so proud to have played our part in what so many in the vast crowds of happy revellers were declaring “Best Fleadh Ever!!”

Wexford Blooming in 2025

Congratulations to Ann McCann and the Wexford in Bloom team for another annual blitz of colour in Wexford’s main streets, the town looks absolutely amazing!

The preparations began months ago with the selection of blooms for 2025 and arrangements with Beechdale Garden Centre for tending the blooms and ensuring they are ready for the 2-day rollout in May.

Blooming in Beechdale

We would like to give a huge thanks to the Wexford in Bloom and Wexford Tidy Towns volunteers, and Council staff, who put in 2 solid days of work in the very warm May sunshine supplying and hanging the glorious flower baskets to the participating local businesses, and designated community areas. Thanks also to Beechdale for their professional care and delivery of the plants, and of course to all of the retailers who participate every year for their contribution.

Co. Wexford County Awards & Medals, Gold Medal & Highly commended – Wexford Tidy Towns Presented by Minister Timmy Dooley & Yvonne O’Brien, SuperValu Community & Sponsorship Assistant Brand Manager to Anne McCann, Ann Fenlon & Phil Murphy

On Monday 14th April,2025, three of our committee members attended the SuperValu/TidyTowns awards presentation night where Minister Timmy Dooley presented us with our Gold Medal and Highly Commended Certificate for 2024.

This marks our 4th successive year winning the Gold Medal,  progressing from having previously been awarded Bronze and Silver medals over a number of years.   Significantly, we increased our marks in all 8 categories over the previous year – our aim is to further increase these scores in the 2025 competition!

This is a great testament to the work put in, week after week and in all weathers,  by our fantastic group of volunteers, who continue to litter-pick, plant, paint and keep our town looking at its sparkling best.

August 12th

660,000 visitors and €60 million revenue for Wexford – Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2024 was a gloriously successful event. The dedication and hard work of all Volunteers, the professionalism and forward planning of the authorities – Gardaí, Local Authorities, Transport services and others were exemplary, and kept it all ticking over.

Fleadh-streets

Wexford Tidy Towns were part of the Green Team, who worked in shifts through each morning and afternoon  to follow up on the Local Authority teams’ thorough early-bird cleanups.  The town was clean and shiny for the 8 days of the Fleadh, showing Wexford Town at its inviting best to locals and visitors alike.

But the joyous embracing and celebration of a wonderful 8-day event by the Wexford people and the throngs of competitors, supporters, musicians and fun-seekers who mingled happily in the swollen streets is the memory which will live longest.

At least until next year, when we do it all again!

A large section of the art embedded into this historic lane was created by young aspiring Wexford artists ( 5-18 yrs), these budding young creative people will have the satisfaction of having their work on permanent display to generations of Wexford residents and visitors.

March 28th  –   It is a great honour to have members of Wexford Tidy Towns Volunteers, with our hi-viz jackets and litter-pickers, included in the diverse group of people on the poster welcoming visitors to Fleadh 24 approaching from Wexford Bridge.  Let’s hope it’s a gentle reminder to all to keep our town clean and beautiful during your stay!

March 20th  –  Wexford Tidy Towns are thrilled to reach the finishing line with our Public Art mosaic project, designed by Wexford artist Helen McLean.  The installation was formally launched on 18th March by Wexford Town Mayor John Hegarty.  The artwork now ‘bookends’ the quays with it’s sister “Blue Whale” mosaic artwork on the wall at Wexford Bridge.  Wexford Tidy Towns volunteers are very proud to have been involved with this uplifting art project from conception to installation, none of which would have been possible without the financial and other support from Waterford and Wexford Educational Training Board ( WWETB )

March 17th   –  For the first time in quite a few years,  Wexford Tidy Towns volunteers were delighted to take part in the 2024 St. Patricks Day parade in Wexford.  We were subsequently even more delighted to be awarded Best Community Group for 2024!
